Zanuso Mohair ‘Baby’ Lounge Chairs, Early Wood Frames, Brass Legs, Arflex, 1951

Zanuso’s elegant ‘baby’ chairs were designed to complement both his ‘lady’ and ‘senior’ chairs and these examples have been freshly reupholstered in beautiful 70% mohair, 30% silk mix fabric which complements the brass finish legs . Both chairs retain their original early period ‘Arflex’ manufacturer’s metal labels which we managed to retain from the old worn fabric during the reupholstery process

Both chairs have been fully renovated and reupholstered in our in-house workshops, including new rubber seat support webbing by the original manufacturer ‘Pirelli’ and new foam throughout. We have left the brass finish on the legs unpolished leaving the nice vintage surface patina that comes with age , there are a few light surface scratches commensurate with originality age and use. . We have kept a complete photographic record of the in-house restoration process which we can provide to the buyer.

As mentioned these chairs are very early examples easily identified by their artisan crafted wood frames. The early amd costly artisan handcrafted wood frames were very quickly superceded by the far more cost effective industrial welded, pressed sheet steel frames. These production details are confirmed on page 8 of Daniele Baron’s tome on the history of Arflex entitled ‘Arflex 1951-1981’ which was published in 1981.
