S28 Chairs in Elm from Pierre Chapo, France, 1972, Set of 6

Very nice sculptural S28 chairs designed by Pierre Chapo and made in his own atelier in France in 1972. Pierre Chapo discovered Alsatian architecture, the wood structures of the traditional half-timbered houses and the tried an tested household furniture. The interior of a home was the vital space in wintertime, and the heart of the house was a large table, where family and friends gathered for meals and winter evenings. Struck by the traditional “Aslation chair,” Chapo decided to modernize it . In 1972, he designed the S28 chair, keeping the basic characteristics of the “Alsatian chair” but ridding it of its decorative elements. The back is made of a single piece of Elm wood, the seat is in solid flat Elm an the four legs point outwards. Each piece of wood was shaped with care and precision. The S28 is a modern chairs that maintains the silhouette and comfort of the “Alsatian chair.’ The chairs are in fantastic original condition.
