This vintage Mies van der Rohe MR 20 cantilevered cane arm chair made by Stendig is circa 1970. The MR chair was designed by modernist architect Ludwig Mies van der Rohe in 1927 as part of his contribution to the Weissenhof exhibit in Stuttgart, Germany and was awarded the Museum of Modern Art Award in 1977 and the Design Center Stuttgart Award in 1978. This iconic Bauhaus cantilever chair feature clean lines, a simple profile and a lack of ornamentation that epitomizes the International Style. The chair’s cantilevered design used chrome-plated tubular steel – an innovative technology at the time – paired with handwoven natural cane for the perfect balance of contrasting materials and an intuitively accessible and ergonomic seat. Tags on underside of chair reads Stendig. This versatile, timeless and highly collectible chair pairs well with a wide range of decor. The perfect accent for home or office.
