A figure of reference for contemporary designers, Caccia Dominioni plumbed the relationship between modernity and tradition throughout his work, contributing decisively to the postwar architectural redefinition of Milan, his hometown. Among his most famous works in the city are the apartment buildings on Via Ippolito Nievo, the San Felice neighborhood, and the redevelopment of Piazza San Babila. As for his career as a designer, his most famous work is certainly the Catilina armchair, made in 1957. Luigi Caccia Dominioni won the prestigious Compassod’Oro for such important projects as the Palini T12 Chair, in collaboration with the Castiglioni brothers, and the Super door. In addition, he was awarded the Compasso d’Oro Lifetime Achievement Award for his objective contribution to the very definition of Italian design and the originality of its contents.
