This model is one of the later Akari models, introduced by Noguchi in 1985. Gemini G.E.L was one of the few – and one of the last – allowed to distribute Noguchi’s Akari light sculptures in the mid 1980’s before The Noguchi Museum took over all rights. They marketed Akari as art in the form of light sculpture – something Noguchi had advocated for since their inception. Noguchi also made 26 galvanized steel editions for Gemini in the 1980’s.
