Fuller, Jan.1, 1818 at their Sporting Gallery, 34, Rathbone Place. ALKEN, Henry Thomas (1785-1851) [Fox-hunting series, comprising a set of two of the series of seven plates. London: S. and J. Fuller, 1 January 1818.] A very rare pair of hunting prints from the fox hunting expanded early series in which these two plates portray the different aspects of the fox hunting sport; the actual hunting of the fox across the rolling English Countryside in the pleasure of the view Holla “Gone away” and the convivial drinking of “The Refreshments” outside a spirits inn/bar after a good hunt.
The set of 2 hand-colored aquatint plates with written signs in the prints: “Gone Away”(Steeltraps are set in these grounds) and “The Refreshment’ (W Brown Dealer in spirits) by T. Sutherland after Alken. Both are beautifully matted (some color fading and light browning from age on prints) and framed in gilt gold/silver wood frames (slight scuff marks on the frames) with glass very good condition overall.
