Vintage Design
Fantastic pair of armchairs designed by Herta Maria Witzemann and manufactured by Wilde & Spieth, Germany 1954. The chairs have solid metal frames and hand-woven cane seats and armrests which is in fantastic condition with a great patina to it. The combination of metal and wicker was very popular in the 1950s as wicker was a popular and cheap material to use and process at the time. Nowadays this is very expensive work as the labour for a chair as this, since it is all hand work, takes a lot of time. Super shaped pair of chairs and comfortable seating too, a cushion to the seat would protect the cane and make the chairs even more comfortable. The chairs seem quite simple and straight forward but the details in the wickerwork are mesmerizing and very characteristic.
