A beautiful early 20th century Art Deco pochoir print on paper by Edouard Halouze (1895-1958) — a French artist, designer, and fashion illustrator known for his unique Art Deco influence. In 1939, Halouze left France, escaping the German invasion of the country, and settled in New York where he continued his design activities.
A Pochoir (French for “stencil”), as distinguished from ordinary stenciling, is a highly refined technique of making fine limited edition stencil prints. It is characterized by its crisp lines and brilliant colors, producing images that have a freshly printed or wet appearance. This technique was most popular from the late 1800s through the 1930s with its center of activity in Paris. Twentieth-century artists Pablo Picasso and Joan Miró made prints in this technique for book illustrations.
This gorgeous Pochoir print features a chinoiserie motif in vibrant colors and exquisite detail. It is signed lower left and displayed in a decorative wood tray frame with brass handles and felt backing. A very versatile art piece due to its unique framing, it can serve as a tray on a table, dresser, or other furniture piece or be displayed upright using a tabletop easel (as pictured). Hooks can also be added for wall hanging.
The wood frame measures roughly 10” x 10” not including the brass handles. Offered without stand.
