An exceptionally well done antique oil painting “Portrait of Betsy” by Japanese American artist, active in Massachusetts, Kanji (Kanzi) Nakamura (1887-1932). He was known for portraits. His works are included in the Museums of Fine Art Boston and Harvard Art Museums. Oil on canvas. Signed. This particular piece has extensive gallery & exhibition information on the back. There is a very old auction tag that it dark and hard to read and one that has been mostly torn off. The remaining paper is a card that reads “Oil Paintings Modern, Barbizon, and Old Masters from the Estate of Mrs. Nathan L. Amster Sold by Order of Leonard and James Amster and from others”. There is also a partial page of a gallery catalog that shows that this painting was exhibited alongside a Pablo Picasso. Framed behind glass in a gorgeous gilt wood frame. Wire hanger on the back. The U.S.A., circa 1920s. Excellent condition of the artwork, some loss to the gilt on the frame.
