Credenza by Laurens Bisscheroux, the Netherlands, 1956 https://www.dltinas.shop/product/credenza-by-laurens-bisscheroux-the-netherlands-1956/ https://www.dltinas.shop/product/credenza-by-laurens-bisscheroux-the-netherlands-1956/#respond Sat, 28 Sep 2024 12:40:28 +0000 https://dltinas.shop/product/credenza-by-laurens-bisscheroux-the-netherlands-1956/

Vintage Design

One of a kind credenza designed and made by Laurens Bisscheroux which is coming from an interior designed for his aunt in 1956. This design has beautiful French or Italian influenced details, especially in the legs. These have this sculptural shape that is almost an object on its own due to their construction. The credenza is made of birchwood with this nice yellow tone. The credenza consists of a drawer compartment on the left side with five drawers. The fronts of the drawers are finished with a yellow/green toned ribbed wooden element. The birch handles have a subtle design that is perfectly made to easily open the drawer. The top drawer has a red velvet interior where you can store small items. On the right side there are two glass sliding doors and a glass shelf with enough space for treasured objects to display. The doors have milled out handles where you can open them with your fingertips. This credenza is in original condition with only a very small mark on the top, no worthy marks besides that and a beautiful original patina. Laurens Bisscheroux was born on March 31, 1934, in Eygelshoven, as the son of contractor W.H. Bisscheroux. Initially he attended a minor seminary in Sittard but did not complete his studies there. He then pursued a degree in civil engineering at the HTS in Heerlen and subsequently worked as a furniture maker in his father’s company. In 1960, he started his own architectural firm. His works can be divided into two periods. The first period is characterized by structuralist designs. In the early 1960s Bisscheroux received his first major commission. The Italian Belfi family sought a new ice cream parlor. Bisscheroux designed the La Veneziana ice cream parlor, introducing people to novelties like cappuccino. Bisscheroux aimed to capture the ambiance of 1950s Italian films in his designs, both exterior and interior. Mosaics, a bar made of cobblestones, and artistic wall decorations enhanced this atmosphere. A beautiful green enamelled brick was used for the side facade. from around 1972, his work took on a sculpturalist nature. Notable examples include the AZM building in Heerlen. The striking building had a steel skeleton, constructed of cubes measuring 4.50 meters per side. Glass was extensively used in the building, and the dimensions were spacious, with vivid color usage, resulting in a transparent structure. However, it was the distinctive sunscreens that gave the building its unique appearance, earning it the nickname “toetergebouw” (horn building). Bisscheroux also designed homes and the police station in Kerkrade. After 1980, he ceased his work as an architect and devoted himself entirely to painting and furniture design.

It’s made of matt chrome-plated steel with a unique dome shaped frosted milk-white glass shade. The slim stem smoothly connects to a chrome ring at the base to maintain the lamps balance. The lamp radiates beautiful atmospheric light that has a great reach and comes with its original cord and plug. Wonderful light sculpture and an iconic design by van den Nieuwelaar. Important literature; Aldo van den Nieuwelaar lights & Furniture, WhiteRouge gallery 2012. Artimeta catalogue of 1972, copy of that on the pictures. Born in 1944, Aldo van den Nieuwelaar is a Dutch designer and architect. He founded his own studio in 1969 and spent his career designing furniture, light fixtures, light sculptures, and architecture. His work is known for its simplicity and clarity of form Van den Nieuwelaar’s iconic work is in his sculptural fluorescent lighting which often featured curved steel tubes in white and chrome and geometric fluorescent tubes. One example is the TC6, a square box with a circular fluorescent tube. In 1973 van den Nieuwelaar collaborated with Pastoe to create a series of narrow cabinets with shutter doors. His award-winning designs are exhibited in museums throughout the Netherlands as well as the Museum of Modern Art in New York City. This lamp is checked in our own atelier, cleaned and is suitable for use in the USA. For US usage we could change the plug, or you can get a converter if needed for a floor or table lamp with transformer in it.

Vintage Design

Beautiful minimalist CU06 cabinet designed by Cees Braakman and manufactured by Pastoe in the Netherlands in 1958. A wonderful piece made from teak wood veneer. The cabinet also features a black painted metal frame. The handles on the outer doors are made of black plastic. On the outside you can see one tilt door on the upper left. Below that are four drawers. On the right side is one large door. On the inside of that door are three shelves with in the middle two drawer with metal handles. Behind the tilt door are two bar shelves. The inside of the shelves on the left is beautiful finished with bend veneer. This cabinet is part of the Japanese series, and you can see that it draws a lot of design inspiration from Japanese aesthetics. The black metal frame has plastic feet to protect your floor, and they can be adjusted in height thanks to a clever system that helps level the cabinet on uneven floors.
