Vintage Djinn two-seater sofa designed by Olivier Mourgue in 1965 for Airborne. Metal frame lined with foam and covered in yellow Kvadrat publisher’s fabric. The feet have steel Skates. The Djinn sofa whose shape was inspired by the genies of Arabian culture that can adopt any form, human or animal, is a masterpiece of Space Age design. This sofa is an icon of 20th century design made famous by Stanley Kubrick in 2001, A Space Odyssey. This sofa presents sinuous and typical Space Age shapes. The sofa through its wavy perhaps creates harmony and softness to its seat without neglecting the absolute comfort.
Olivier Mourgue.
Born in Paris in 1939, Mourgue, starting from the ’60s became known for his series of furniture and household objects with a playful and pop look, typical of those years: such as the lamp Flower designed for Disderot in 1967 and the armchair of the Montreal series, designed for the Universal Exhibition of 1967. But his activity as a designer knows the real moment of glory with the armchairs of the Djinn series, chosen by the great Stanley Kubrick as an emblem of the furniture of the future.
