After several years of joint development by Verner Panton and Vitra, the Panton chair was finally ready for production in 1967 – as the first all-plastic cantilever chair to be manufactured in one piece. Created with a revolutionary production technique, the chair’s unique sculptural design was presented to the public for the first time at the imm Furniture Fair in Cologne in 1968. It rapidly came to symbolise an entire era. In 2018, 50 years after its launch, Vitra is issuing two limited editions of this iconic classic: Panton Chrome and Panton Glow. Vitra limited production of the “Glow” to 333 chairs which were sold in June 2018, the 50th anniversary of the first presentation of the chair to the public.
Verner Panton showed an ardent interest in innovative technologies, techniques and materials over the course of his lifetime. He worked with lighting, colour and luminous elements in many of his futuristic interiors.
For his legendary 1970 installation ‘Visiona 2’, in particular, he developed walls and ceilings that appeared to glow from within as a result of their layout and colour scheme, giving the room a psychedelic look. With this in mind, Vitra, in 2018, developed the Panton Glow in consultation with Verner’s wife Marianne Panton. In an elaborate process, five layers of a varnish containing phosphorescent pigments are carefully applied by hand to the raw polyurethane shell of the Panton Classic and sealed with a high-gloss protective coating. The luminous pigments absorb daylight and emit a blue glow in the dark. The almost ghostly appearance of Panton Glow in the obscurity of night has a somewhat mystical aura and sheds new light – quite literally – on this iconic classic. This beautiful set of danish dining chairs designed by Niels O. Møller in the late 1960s was manufactured by J.L. Møllers in Denmark. The set features 8 chairs of Niels O. Møllers elegant model 80. This model is made out of solid teak wood with a black Skai-leather back rest and seat.

The chairs are offered in nice vintage condition. The frames of the chairs are solid with no weakness to the joints and each chair is stamped with the original Niels O. Moller stamp. The seats have been cleaned and show only minor fading, light abrasions and a few small holes on one chair. The dust cover underneath the seats is partially damaged on some chairs- non visible though. Please have a close look at the pictures. The chair’s overall appearance presents beautifully.

As rare as they are visually stunning this extraordinary set of chairs, first designed by the iconic Norman Cherner in 1958, has recently undergone a comprehensive and transformative restoration offering a modern twist to the classic design. Considered a pioneer in molded plywood, Norman Cherner used this method to create a line of seating for Plycraft that led to his famous “Cherner Chair.” This model chair is found in design collections throughout the world, including the Vitra Design Museum and the Cherner Chair is still regarded as one of the most dramatic designs utilizing the technology of molding plywood. The Cherner side chair utilizes a molded plywood seat with a unique construction of laminated walnut plywood in graduated thickness. The seats and backs are designed using a single shell connected by a slim and sturdy neck upholstered in new black vinyl nearly identical to the original material all set atop a set of slender, powder-coated metal legs. Stamped “October 31st, 1963” and retaining the original Plycraft tags these one of a kind dining chairs are as good as it gets for collectors and designers alike. The Niels Moller chair model 78 was designed in 1962 and exemplifies the quality of design and construction. The frame is a reduced form, turned and carved to meet the user, providing comfort and character. This example is made of Brazilian Rosewood and upholstered in a woven wool floral fabric upholstery.

In 1944, Niels Otto Møller founded J.L. Møllers Møbelfabrik in Denmark. J. L. Møllers Møbelfabrik produces chairs of extremely high quality, in timeless designs. The chairs are sold over the whole world and the Møller chair has become the epitome of Danish design.

Chairs from J.L. Møller are assembled using old craft techniques. As far as possible no modern technology is used. Each employee is a specialist in a specific process for creating each chair, giving it a unique quality and elegance. All tenons, mortices and dowels are glued by hand. Each chair is also polished by hand to give a better result than using a polishing machine.
