Vintage Design

Excellent condition. Mahogany veneer, beech frame. Upholstery original in excellent undamaged, unstained, un teared, not smelly condition, real retro pattern. Wood refinished. Thoroughly cleaned and conserved with hard wax oil, only light scratches to side. Pulling mechanism fully functional. Heavy around 50 kg. Would serve as a sofa during the day and sleep over during night. Will accomodate two people, unfold has 130 cm to 195 cm. Produced in former Czechoslovakia probably early 70s, not marked.

Exquisite D70 Sofa Daybed by Osvaldo Borsani for Tecno, 1954

Sofa/ Daybed ‘D70’, designed by Osvaldo Borsani and manufactured by Tecno, Italy 1954. This customizable D70 sofa has two pivoting wings, a very stable metal frame, and a beautiful fresh olive-green fabric upholstery. The opening mechanism consists of a lever with a securing pin that engages with holes in a graduated plate. The mechanism is operated effortlessly by a beautifully designed brass knob and allows the backrest and seat to assume any angle and to fold down to form a bed. With a single twist the back and seating are positioned upwards or down.

This iconic ‘D70’ sofa-bed was presented at the Exhibition of individual furniture items in the 10th Triennale Exhibition in Milan in 1954. The highly visible mechanical joint expressed Osvaldo Borsani’s determination to design and make items of furniture that were original, autonomous and elegant in form, but technical and Industrial in production. In very good condition.

This sofa / Daybed is a unique object distinguished by the special mechanism that allows different opening angles between seat and backrest, up to complete reversibility. It is unparalleled in functionality, extraordinarily harmonious in form and comfortable, perfect in domestic settings but also in waiting areas, lounges and private offices.

The series of adjustable movements go from fully closed to fully opened, converting the sofa into a bed. (AWARDS: Triennale DOH, 1954)

The sofa was completely disassembled into its individual parts by our master upholsterer, the foam cores were cnc cut exactly according to the original and fitted again. The highest quality fabric was chosen to match the year of design, fine and coarse woven loops result in a classic 50s look!

Listed is an iconic BR02 sofa / sofa bed / daybed by Martin Visser for ‘t Spectrum. Designed in 1960, this minimalist sofa can be converted in bed with one simple movement. Model no. BR02 refers to the round metal frame — the most sought after edition.

Martin Visser (1922-2009) is one of the ‘ best-known furniture designers from the Netherlands. Because of his work for the furniture department of De Bijenkorf, Visser was asked in 1954 to become chief designer at Spectrum. This turned out to be a golden opportunity, his sleek designs and functional approach to design have long determined the collection. The BR 02 sofa bed, designed in 1960, is Visser’s most famous design and has become a real design classic. The ease of use, comfort and clear construction are essential elements of this successful design. In addition, this design exudes durability: the timeless design and high quality ensure that this sofa bed lasts for generations and fits into lots of styles interiors.

This lovely sofa is reupholstered in a luxurious wool-alpaca blend from Keymer Fabrics The Hague, and the seat has been redone with new foam. Some minor patina on metal parts, consistent with age and use. Safely to say, this is the best edition of the BR02 sofa on the market topday.
