Vintage Design

Camaleonda modular sofa with structure in polyurethane foam padded and upholstered with a dark brown velvet. This set is composed by two large modules and two small modules which could be assembled thanks to the the innovative system of cables, hooks and rings created by Bellini in 1970, which defines its characteristic and iconic look.

The sofa comes with one armrests, one large headrest and two small headrests

The fundamental characteristic of Camaleonda is its unlimited modularity, a geometric nature that allows each element to become a sort of enormous pixel through which to define your home environment. Thanks to the tie-rods and rings, the modules can be unhooked and recombined at will, allowing the sofa to adapt to an evolving taste and to the dynamic needs of those using it, while always maintaining its unique identity.

Dimensions:

Large modules: H68 x 90 x 90cm
Small modules: H68 x 60 x 90 cm

Fiandra modular sofa by Vico Magistretti for Cassina 70s

Fiandra is a project by Vico Magistretti put into production by Cassina in 1975, seating elements with simple lines and whose name evokes the “flat country”, its solid businesses and its precious fabrics, transferring the idea of solidity into comfort of the seats and the preciousness in the variety of coverings ranging from classic canvas to leather, wool and velvet. The armchair, like the sofas, is made up of modular elements which, fixed together thanks to a metal bracket screwed under the base, make up linear and corner configurations. The basic elements, armchairs with or without armrests (right or left) are available in two widths, while only the armchair with two armrests and the coordinated pouf cannot be fixed to the other elements. The cover of the down cushions, fixed by means of zips, is removable.

Pay attention!
The configuration of the sofa is modular and therefore the actual measurements depend on the desired composition.

Cassina Spa is an Italian company operating in the contemporary furniture sector, founded in 1927 in Meda by Cesare and Umberto Cassina.
In the 1950s, Cassina switched from artisanal to serial production, adopting the logic of industrial design. A change also induced by the commission for furnishings for the interiors of large cruise ships. In addition, some of the company’s best-known products took shape during this period: chair 646 and chair 699, known as the “Superleggera”, both designed by Gio Ponti.

In 1963 Vico Magistretti joins the company team of designers, creating the Carimate armchair.

Ludovico “Vico” Magistretti (Milan, 6 October 1920 – Milan, 19 September 2006) was one of the most important Italian designers, architect and urban planner. His clean and essential design has characterized and inspired the world of creating furniture for the home, office and company throughout the second part of the twentieth century.

20th Century Swiss Leather DS-600 Caterpillar Sofa from de Sede, 1970, Set of 16 https://www.dltinas.shop/product/20th-century-swiss-leather-ds-600-caterpillar-sofa-from-de-sede-1970-set-of-16/ https://www.dltinas.shop/product/20th-century-swiss-leather-ds-600-caterpillar-sofa-from-de-sede-1970-set-of-16/#respond Fri, 27 Sep 2024 06:04:28 +0000 https://dltinas.shop/product/20th-century-swiss-leather-ds-600-caterpillar-sofa-from-de-sede-1970-set-of-16/

Vintage Design

A stunning cream leather de Sede DS-600 segmented “caterpillar“ sofa, mid to late 20th century, with rounded back supports and arms, the sixteen segmented sections each joined by a zipped mechanism.

The 1970s were not as celebrated for iconic furniture designs as the two preceding decades, when modern furniture came into its own. Nevertheless, the decade witnessed some historic contributions and unquestionably one of its most striking designs was de Sede’s DS-600 modular Non Stop sofa.

Swiss furniture maker de Sede launched this whimsical and unorthodox model in 1972 and is still making it today. A hallmark of several mid-century modern furniture designs, including the Non Stop, is the ability to offer nearly endless configurations, giving owners the flexibility to rearrange the seating pieces with ease or fit them into different room layouts.

Resembling a caterpillar or an accordion, the Non Stop sofa is composed of modular sections that are connected with hinges, but can be detached. They can be bent so the sofa forms a C, S, U, or an L. Sections can be removed or added to create a look to suit every taste. Some choose to keep their Non Stops perfectly straight.

De Sede began in Klingnau, Switzerland as a tanner’s workshop and has long been known as a maker of fine leather furniture that is versatile and comfortable. The DS-600 (its formal name, according to the de Sede catalogue) is the most well known of the company’s furniture designs. The Non Stop earned a place in the Guinness Book of Records as the world’s largest sofa with an example that boasted more than 400 connected sections. That record-setting behemoth was designed by the de Sede in-house team of Heinz Ulrich, Ueli Berger, Eleanora Peduzzi-Riva, and Klaus Vogt.

Interestingly, while the DS-600 has come to be known as the Non Stop sofa, this title seems to have not been used by de Sede. A Google search to find the genesis of this nickname yields no useful information, but the moniker has clearly stuck. The company notes on its website that the sofa was actually named after a mythical creature in Alpine lore, the Tatzelwurm, which is said to be a long and slender lizard or worm-like creature that has the face of a cat.

CONDITION
In very good condition throughout, only minor signs of wear and tear consummate with light use. Seating comfortable. No rips or tears to the leather. Please refer to photographs
