Artist Bio
A selfless dedication to the art of printmaking, Janssen’s drawings and etchings have been the subject of solo exhibitions in the world´s most prestigious museums known for their drawing collections such as in Basel (1966), The Munch Museum in Oslo, The Harvard Busch Reisinger Museum in Cambridge, USA (1976), The Chicago Art Institute (1980), The Albertina Museum in Vienna (1991), The Rembrandt House in Amsterdam and a two person exhibition with Egon Schiele on the common theme of “Eros and Death” at the Leopold Museum in Vienna.
An eccentric and controversial figure, Horst Janssen has been considered by some as one of the most distinguished draftsmen of the second part of the 20th century. His drawings and graphic works have been the subject of many museum exhibitions worldwide. Well over a hundred books have been published on his work as well as a biography on his tumultuous life. In 2014, the French – German cultural television channel Arte produced a film titled “I am God’s glory”

Arizona artist Louis de Mayo (1926-2016) is a contemporary painter of the American Indian.

Abstract Multi Layer Woodblock Print on Heavy Paper, 1/1
Brightly colored one-of-a-kind multi-layer abstract composition by Michael William Eggleston (American, 20th Century). Patches of bold colors are intertwined and layered over each other. The majority of the piece is yellow and blue, with grey and red accents.

Unsigned, but was acquired with a collection of the artist’s work.
Presented in a new buff mat.

Michael William Eggleston (American, 20th Century) is a San Francisco Abstract Expressionist who studied at the San Francisco Art Institute and exhibited at the Bergen Artists Guild in New Jersey.

Wonderful hand-colored lithograph of Sierra Mountain camping scene by Donald Masefield Easton (American, 1896 – 1956), published in 1931. Signed lower right (partially obscured by mat). Presented in rustic wood frame under glass. Image size: 14″H x 18″W.

Donald Masefield Easton was a painter, illustrator with his subjects being California landmarks and western scenes. Born is Port Costa, CA in 1896, Eason was the son of a pioneer railroad executive whose work took the family from place to place. At an early age, the younger Easton went to sea and while traveling the world, studied art in Paris and other European art centers.

Following service in WWI, he was active in Monterey in the 1920s. By the 1930s he had settled in Los Angeles where he remained until his death on May 1 1956.
His painting subjects include California landmarks and western scenes.

Beautiful pair/set of two aquatints coloured by hand racing prints depicting The First Steeple-Chase on record. The pair of aquatints are both ‘Drawn by H. Alken. Engraved by J. Harris. London, Published March 1st. 1839, by Ben. Brooks, at his Eclipse Sporting Gallery, 48, High Street. Oxford.’ This pair comprises Plate I titled “Ipswich, the Watering-place behind the Barracks”, and Plate IV “Nacton Church and Village”. Unusual for depicting night scenes;
Plate 1; Several men, all wearing white nightcaps, on horses, others preparing to mount, soldiers in uniform attending to riders, with barracks in the background; scene illuminated by moonlight circa 1839. and
Plate 4; night scene, riders, wearing white nightcaps, gallop through a road in a village, waving to villagers, who watch from their windows and doorways, with handkerchiefs; church and house in the background circa 1839,
these two aquatints are from a series of four plates published in “A Monthly Chronicle of The Turf, The Chase, and Rural Sports in all their Varieties”, a nineteenth-century monthly which reported on the present-day equestrian sporting life. Drawn by Henry Alken, a leading British sporting artist.
Both antique prints have been custom framed with brown and tan linen matting and wood frames behind glass.

Very good condition. The aquatint is beautifully Double matted (some color fading and light browning from age) and is framed in a brown wood frame (slight scuff marks on the frame) with glass.

Very pretty small vintage Japanese Ukiyo-e reproduction print depicting a Young Lady with Umbrella on a snowy day. Sealed. Mounted on a heavier board of paper with gold edge showing some age wear. Later mounted on the black board and covered with acrylic glass. Painted gold bamboo style wood frame. Paper, wire hanger and label on back. Japan, Shōwa Era, circa mid of the XX century. Excellent condition – some edge wear on the print, minor age wear on the frame.

A very rare pair of hunting prints from the fox hunting expanded early series in which these two plates portray the different aspects of the fox hunting sport; the actual hunting of the fox across the rolling English Countryside in the pleasure of the view Holla “Gone away” and the convivial drinking of “The Refreshments” outside a spirits inn/bar after a good hunt.

The set of 2 hand-colored aquatint plates with written signs in the prints: “Gone Away”(Steeltraps are set in these grounds) and “The Refreshment’ (W Brown Dealer in spirits) by T. Sutherland after Alken. Both are beautifully matted (some color fading and light browning from age on prints) and framed in gilt gold/silver wood frames (slight scuff marks on the frames) with glass very good condition overall.
So sorry for the glare in the photos.
