Vintage Design
A fabulous set of 4 plywood dining chairs ‘Bivalve 940′ designed by Gianni Moscatelli made in Italy ca 1955. These beautiful organic plywood dining chairs have an unusual but beautiful shape. As plywood furniture was rather new and experimental in the 50s a lot of designers and manufacturers were experimenting the possibilities of shapes in plywood. I guess in this design you can see how far they could go. As the entire chair is made of rather thin plywood and has a super dynamic shape. 2 Shells together compose the seating part where on the sides the legs are attached with beautiful custom-made screws. These chairs come directly from the designer’s home and therefor have an amazing provenance as well. The chairs are in black painted finish which has an original patina with some crackle and losses but still preserve their original look.
